With the defection of Flashback from the Kentucky Derby trail, Garrett Gomez was left without a mount. He now has one, as he’s picked up the mount on Vyjack. I’m a little surprised by this decision, mainly because I don’t view Vyjack as a legitimate contender. I don’t think he wants any part of ten furlongs, and if that’s the case, you don’t have any chance to win the Kentucky Derby. With other horses that would seem to be better bred for staying the distance, I figured Gomez would end up on a horse like Revolutionary. Gomez also has the mount on Palace Malice this weekend in the Blue Grass Stakes – if he garners enough points to get into the Derby, that would now leave him without a rider. Lots of juggling still to come regarding riders and their mounts in the Kentucky Derby.
