Castellano to ride Normandy Invasion over Revolutionary in Kentucky Derby

To me, this is a major knock against Revolutionary. The fact that Javier Castellano has chosen to ride a horse who will still be eligible for a “non-winners of two lifetime” race when he enters the starting gate for the Kentucky Derby over a horse who has won two graded stakes races this season can’t be looked at as a positive thing if you’re a Revolutionary fan. You have to think Pletcher thought it was a lock that he’d have Velazquez and Castellano riding his two big charges in the Derby, but that won’t be the case. Normandy Invasion may be getting good at the right time – he closed very well into a ridiculously slow pace in the Wood last weekend…what will he do in a race with an honest pace? I still have my suspicions, simply because I can’t get past his Remsen when he hung about as badly as a racehorse can possibly hang. It will be interesting to see how things develop, but two things are for sure – Normandy Invasion will be ridden by Javier Castellano, and Revolutionary will be looking for a new rider.
